Writing for The Trans-African is a one-time, yearlong engagement. Contributors commit to write short (1,000 to 2,000-word) essays each month for a calendar year, and to be peer-reviewed by two or three other writers. Our goal is to support independent writers, whose writing on art aspire to literature.

If you want us to consider you as a contributor for 2017, please send a query to [email protected] with the following details:

  • A 500-word description of the essays you intend to write in the body of an email. (We only want to know the direction of your proposed yearlong research and thinking.)
  • 5 links to your work online, or PDFs if published in a print journal.
  • All proposals should reach us by July 31, 2016.

Personal, probing essays that focus on the process of seeing art and all forms of images are welcome.

Contributors are compensated monthly.
